Privacy Policy

Last updated 15 August 2026

seemyfriends helps friends find time to see each other. Doing that requires knowing when you are free and how to reach you. This policy describes exactly what that means, and deliberately avoids collecting anything beyond it.

seemyfriends is operated from Canada by Chris Whitmore, and handles personal information under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect

InformationWhy we need it
Mobile number The primary way the service reaches you. Proposals and confirmations are sent by text.
Email address (optional) Account recovery and sign-in links, if you provide one.
Display name and time zone So friends recognize you and so we never suggest 3am.
Calendar free/busy times If you connect a calendar, we read only whether a period is free or busy. We do not receive event titles, descriptions, locations, attendees, or attachments — the permissions we request from your calendar provider do not grant access to them.
Your stated availability and preferences When you are open to plans, how often you would like to see particular people, how far you will travel, what kinds of things you enjoy.
Your connections Which people you have mutually connected with. Required to match you with anyone.
Messages you exchange with the service Texts and conversations with our assistant. See Messages.
Meetup history Which proposals were made and whether they happened, so the service learns when to suggest things.
Consent records The date, time, IP address, and exact wording you agreed to when you signed up. Required by Canadian anti-spam law and by mobile carriers.

What we never collect

What other people can see

This is central to how the service works, so it is stated plainly. A person you are connected with never sees:

When a suggestion does not work out, both people are told only that it did not come together. We do not say who declined, and we do not distinguish a decline from a missed reply.

Messages

We keep the messages you exchange with the service. They are how the assistant learns your preferences and the way you like to make plans — that someone prefers weekend mornings, or that a particular friendship works best over a long walk. This makes the service better the longer you use it.

These messages are used only to operate and personalize your own experience. We do not sell them, share them with advertisers, or use them to train anyone else's models. You can delete them at any time by deleting your account or by asking us.

How long we keep things

DataRetention
Calendar free/busy times Deleted within 7 days of the time period they describe having passed.
Messages Until you delete them or close your account.
Meetup history Until you close your account.
Consent records Retained after account closure only as long as anti-spam and carrier rules require us to prove consent was given.

A note on how the 7 days works. To suggest anything useful, the service has to look a few weeks ahead, so at any moment we hold free/busy information about upcoming dates. The 7-day limit applies once a period has passed: a Tuesday evening we knew about is deleted within a week of that Tuesday.

Aggregate patterns learned from that information — for example, that you tend to accept weekend suggestions — persist after the underlying free/busy data is deleted. They contain no calendar detail.

Who we share with

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with providers that operate the service on our behalf:

Some of these providers process data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to foreign courts and authorities.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA you may:

Email privacy@seemyfriends.net and we will respond within 30 days. Deleting your account removes your profile, availability, messages, and meetup history.

Security and breaches

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access is limited to what operating the service requires. See Security for detail. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected people and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as PIPEDA requires.

Children

The service is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will tell you before the change takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
